Where do you train?
Empire ABC, Bristol
How did you get into boxing?
I started out with Thai boxing, which I got into because I was bullied. I took a year out and found it hard to get back into it so tried boxing instead. I knew as soon as I walked into the gym for the first time that I was in the right place and I haven't looked back since.
What do you do when you're not boxing?
I am a Active Lifestyles Development Officer for a Local Authority. In layman's terms I develop different ways to get more people involved in sport and physical activity.
Do you have a message for women and girls starting in boxing?
Someone wise said to me 'If it was easy everyone would do it' and because it's not those that are attracted to it, walk into that gym for the first time and stick it out have a little extra 'something' about them. I've applied the same mantra and discipline to other areas of my life which has helped me achieve things I didn't think I was capable of.
What does your training involve?
I'll do my boxing specific training 3 times a week which includes a variety of running, bag, pad, partner work, circuits and sparring. Once a week I train with Empire Sports Club who coach me in Olympic style weight lifting to improve my explosive power and strength and two nights a week I just focus on running.
