Coaching Courses

The first step to becoming a boxing coach is to become involved with a local boxing club.  In order to gain an ABAE coaching qualification you must be nominated by an ABAE affiliated club - this is due to the contact nature of the sport and the associated requirements for ensuring a safe environment for boxing.

Details of local clubs can be found using the Clubfinder function on this website.

All sessions must be lead by an ABAE Full Coach or higher, and clubs should ensure that they have a sufficient number of appropriately qualified coaches to ensure that they can meet this requirement.

An assistant coach can only coach under the supervision of a Full Coach or higher.  Assistant coaches are able to take the corner of a boxer during a bout as the bout is under the supervision of the referee.

How Do I Book a Place on a Course?

For more information on coaching courses in your area including dates, costs and how to book a place, you need to contact your Regional Association who organise and deliver courses in their area.  The contact details for Regional Secretaries can be found in the 'About Us' section of the website.

Funding for coach education

Various opportunities exist across the country for coaches to receive subsidies for attending coach education courses.  For information on any local funding opportunities such as coach bursaries, coaches should contact their County Sports Partnership’s Coaching Development Manager.  Coaches may also wish to contact their local authority’s sports development team.
