Coaching

Coaching

Coaches are essential at every level of amateur boxing and the success of the sport depends on the quality of its coaches.

Every coach, from the assistant coach helping out in a local club to the England National Coach, plays a vital role in developing and supporting boxers to reach their potential.

The ABAE will be working to develop its coaching system in the coming years, and this system will be based upon the following key principles:

  • Boxer-centred - all coaching developments must ultimately result in a better quality of training and experience for boxers.
  • Continuous learning and development - just as boxers must continuously improve in order to be successful, so too must both individual coaches and the ABAE’s coaching system.
  • Voluntary workforce - the vast majority of boxing coaches are volunteers and any requirements that coaches are expected to meet must have a clear basis in ensuring that coaches can meet their responsibilities to their boxers and their sport.

Disability boxing

The ABAE, through its Equity and Ethics Commission, has been working on pilot boxing programmes at a grass roots level for people with disabilities.

These pilot programmes have enabled the creation of a resource to inspire clubs and coaches and provide ideas on how to include people with disabilities in non-contact boxing sessions.
