Boxing for Fitness

Boxing training provides some of the best all over body conditioning you can get, no matter what your age or level of ability. It's a great way of improving stamina and boosting the cardiovascular system while improving core strength and balance.

Boxing training is becoming increasingly popular as more and more people recognise the health benefits and realise that you can train like a boxer without actually competing. Make the Weight schemes are also popular, helping people to achieve realistic and attainable weight goals through boxing training.

BOX

BOX  is the new ABAE fitness studio based boxing programme.

The ABAE are aware that not everyone interested in boxing wants to join a club or box competitively, and that for many people the training side is appealing but not the contact form of the sport. BOX aims to provide an opportunity for everyone to take part in fitness studio based boxing and to experience the fitness, health and happiness benefits of training like a boxer.

The BOX programme focuses on the training of qualified gym and fitness instructors to deliver a range of BOX sessions that are progressive in nature and that encourage retention of participants through variety and progression. A training course has been designed to meet the training needs of level 2 gym instructors enabling them to deliver the BOX programme to customers in the leisure and fitness environment. The 2 day course plus assessment will provide 16 REPS CPD points to successful participants.

By the end of the course, candidates will be able to:

  • Instruct the foundation techniques for Olympic style boxing
  • Deliver a BOX (Official ABAE Fitness Boxing Programme) session to beginner level participants for 45 minutes
  • Diversify lesson plans

The programme is currently in its infancy and platform courses to pilot the programme are being run between September and December. Leisure operators interested in getting involved should contact Mark Abberley, Chief Executive Officer or Tom Gilbert, National Education and Female Sector Development Manager, on 01142235654
