Bruce Wells
The ABAE, along with the RAF and Combined Services, was sad to hear about the passing away of Bruce Wells last weekend after an illness, aged 76.
Bruce Wells was a Corporal and later a Sergeant Physical Training Instructor (PTI) in the RAF and was not only RAF and Combined Services Champion, but also ABA, Britannia and European Champion, winning medals across the world throughout the 1950s, including in the Commonwealth Games.
There will be many who knew of him or who may have seen him during his post-boxing days in the film world as an actor with parts in household shows such as Minder and Dr Who. For the RAF Boxing Association he epitomised the 'halcyon days' when so many people were involved in boxing and the services were huge - he amassed over 380 bouts, winning all but three.

A tall, rangy Bruce (left) boxing for England against the former USSR at
Wembley in 1954. Bruce was one of only two winners on that night.
The funeral will take place on Wednesday 2nd December at 10.45am at:
Henley Road Cementary
South Chapel
All Hallows Road
Caversham, Reading
RG4 5LP
There will also be a reception following the service at Wokingham, which is about 17 mins drive fm the cementary to which there is an open invitation to Bruce's friends.
The family would appreciate a gauge of how many people are wishing to attend the service, so if you plan to attend please contact: ray_morley@yahoo.co.uk
