Download an ASDAN training day application form (PDF [26Kb]. Download time 6 seconds based on a 56k modem. Will open a new browser window.)
What is a Wider Key Skill?
Wider Key Skills are qualifications that are equal to ¾ of a GCSE. Elements of a normal boxing session fit well with the requirement of the work needed to be completed achieve these qualifications. There are three key skills: Improving Own Learning, Working with Others and Problem Solving. All of these need to be done towards a CoPE GCSE.
What will I be trained to do?
The day will be delivered in a workshop format. Full explanation will be given on how the wider key skills fit into the CoPE.
Who will be delivering the course?
Dean O'Donoghue (ASDAN) and Alan Keast (ABAE Regional Coach).
What will happen after the course?
You will gain a certificate from ASDAN, qualifying you to deliver Wider Key Skills. There will also be continuous support available from the Boxing Academy by joining the team.
Do I have to become a member?
No - if you are already in a school that is ASDAN registered and supports you, then there is no need to join. The Boxing Academy is there for coaches and schools with only a small number of pupils attaining the qualification (less than 100).
What do I receive for my membership?
A pen drive with copies of the wider key skills or laminated hard copies.
Online advice via emails
The opportunity to speak to a coach if problems arise
Admin staff who will track your pupil's work and keep you on track with your paperwork
A cost effective way of accessing ASDAN
Up-to-date information on new developments and courses
* We will only accept quality coaches as members and will back you up with references when possible by informing schools of your achievement and pass rates.
