ABAE athlete receives two year ban
Female boxer Jade Mellor admitted an Anti-Doping Rule Violation under the UK Anti-Doping Rules and World Anti-Doping Code when on the 7th June 2009 at the ABAE Female Boxing Championships in Manchester she took 'Bumetanide' which is a prohibited substance [Category S5: Diuretic]
She initially appeared before an Anti-Doping Panel on the 27th July 2009 in London where she was banned from participation in Amateur Boxing for a period of six months.
As a result of a subsequent appeal by the Anti-Doping Commission of the International Boxing Association [AIBA] , an appeal hearing was held in London on the 9th October 2009.
The appeal was allowed and sentence set against Miss Mellor was substituted with a period of ineligibility of two [2] years commencing 26th June 2009 to the 25th June 2011 inclusive.
It therefore follows that Miss Mellor forfeits her 2009 National ABAE Female Boxing Championship title.
The full details of this case can be seen on the UK Sport website.
