Royal Navy ABA Schools Championship Finals - Day One
The Royal Navy ABA Schools Championship Finals got underway today in Dagenham.

For the boxers taking part, this weekend is the culmination of months of hard work and intense competition. Previous winners include Joe Calzaghe, Naseen Hamed, Amir Khan and James DeGale, so the Schools championships are an excellent indication of the names to watch out for in future.
Chairman of the ABAE, Keith Walters, said: "The Royal Navy Schools Championships give a brilliant indication of the level of talent being cultivated in clubs all over the country today. The effort these young people have put in to get this far has been tremendous. They are our stars of the future and their sportsmanship today should be commended. I'd also like to thank their families and coaches for giving them this opportunity and for supporting them along the way."

An army of supporters from all over the country travelled to see 22 bouts take place at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre, and British super featherweight champion Kevin Mitchell turned up to present some awards. The Dagenham-based boxer was an ABA champion by the age of 18 and remains unbeaten as a professional.

Results so far are available on our results service. Results will be updated live tomorrow, with more photographs and a full report to follow.
