Survey reveals high level of satisfaction among boxing participants
New research has indicated a high level of satisfaction among people taking part in boxing throughout England.
This research has been conducted by Sport England as part of an Active People survey covering 45 different sports, with a sample group of over 43,000 individuals aged 14 and over who regularly take part in sport.
The survey (S.Q.S.E 2009) measures satisfaction across three levels of engagement - general participants, affiliated club members and the talent pool.
Boxing scored a satisfaction score of 83.6% whilst the average of all other sports included in the S.Q.S.E survey was 80.3%.
See how boxing participants in each of these groups responded below, alongside the overall (all sports) figures:
Sport | General participant | Affiliated club member | Talent pool |
Overall (all sports) | 79.8 | 81.5 | 82.2 |
Boxing | 82.1 | 84.1 | 87 |
Satisfaction is assessed across different areas or 'domains', to include: value for money, performance, social/belonging, facilities and playing environment, logistics/organisation, diversion/release, exertion and fitness, officiating and coaching.
Another measure of the Active People survey conducted by Sport England was set against once-a-month participation, sessions delivered, club membership, coaching and competition.
Boxing saw increases in the number of participants engaging in more than one session in an average four week period. There was also a large increase within the competition sphere, which saw an increase in adults participating in organised competitive boxing within the last twelve months.
This research was carried out independently and is a barometer against which the Amateur Boxing Association of England will aim to aspire even further.
