Female Championships 2009 - full results
With a 51% increase in entries, the 2009 Female Championships was set to be a fantastic tournament. Preliminary, association and quarter final rounds were held in many categories culminating in semi finals, and two days of finals. All three days saw a great turn out of spectators and supporters at the Manchester Boxing Centre of Excellence in Gorton, Manchester.
Twenty semi final bouts took place across school, junior and senior categories, with the highlight for many being the gripping 64kg senior bout between Natasha Jonas of Rotunda ABC in Liverpool and Amanda Coulson of Hartlepool Catholic ABC, which Jonas won.
On Saturday the scene was set for a first for the Female Championships, with the introduction of school age finals for girls. With thirteen bouts in the school and junior categories contested on this day, it is positive to see growth in participation at a young age.
The quality of the school and junior category bouts demonstrated just how many more young people are being introduced to amateur boxing and how ABAE clubs are helping to develop the sport for girls.
