Cheshire Youth Games
Clubs in Cheshire joined forces to give local children a boxing taster session at the Cheshire Youth Games this weekend.
Over 200 young people from Warrington, Macclesfield, Crewe and Congleton participated in the session, which included an introduction to the fun and fitness aspects of the sport, as well as footwork, technique and padwork.
Liverpool boxing development officer Damian Ridpath said: "Warrington's Phoenix Olympic ABC and Crewe ABC worked in partnership to deliver high quality, safe and enjoyable boxing taster sessions. For many of the young people this was a first taste of boxing, and the coaches from the two clubs demonstrated excellently the fun, fitness and discipline involved in the sport. Boxers from Phoenix came along to help out with coaching and gave demonstrations, including an exhibition tag-spar which really impressed the crowds. Their enthusiasm has encouraged many of the children to take up boxing, and club members were on hand to give advice on how and where to get started."
Staff from Sport Cheshire, who host the annual event, said the boxing had been well received, with plenty of the youngsters coming back for more. The clubs have already been asked to return next year. Partnership officer Sarah Nancollas said: "The feedback so far has been really positive. The boxing area looked brilliant and was popular all day."
