Commonwealth Youth Games 2008
A team of six boxers has arrived in Pune, India, the third Commonwealth Youth Games.
Boxing is one of nine sports taking part. The others are: swimming, wrestling, weightlifting, table tennis, tennis, athletics, badminton and shooting.
The team arrived in India on Tuesday and are acclimatising ready for the competition, which runs from 12-18 October.
They are well prepared for the Games, having taken part in two tournaments this year; the 3 Nations Youth Championships in Scotland, and Young England versus Young Ireland. They also plan to attend a training camp with Young Ireland and Young Romania in the week before the tournament.
The six were chosen to travel to Pune after achieving national champion status or with exceptional performances in recent international and domestic tournaments. Coaches Mick Gannon and Mark Kinney will accompany them, along with team manager Martin Webb.
All disciplines will compete in the Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City, Balewadi.
