Two silver and a bronze in Brandenburg Cup

.

Boxers from England, Scotland and Wales have returned from the Brandenburg Cup in Oder, Frankfurt, with two bronze medals and a gold.

Martin Ward (England), Robert 'Rocky' Wright (Scotland) and Fred Evans (Wales) took part in the competition in Germany, accompanied by coach Jim Davison. 22 countries in total took part in the Cup, which ran from 3-7 September 2008.

Quarter finals

51kg Martin Ward (England) beat Alkan Ozdemir (Turkey) 18:5

48kg Robert Wright (Scotland) beat Khabibulla Ismail-Akhunov (Kazakhstan) 20:14

64kg Fred Evans (Wales) beat Robert McKee (Scotland) 23:6

Semi finals

51kg Martin Ward beat Dieter Geier (Gemany)

64kg Chabane Fehin (France) beat Fred Evans 14:7

48kg Robert Wright beat Jeremy Beccu (France) 20:9

Finals

48kg Robert Kanalas (Hungary) beat Robert Wright 17:6

51kg Oualid Belaoura (France) beat Martin Ward 16:9

The trio were recently picked to attend the Beijing Olympic Games as part of the British Olympic Association's 'Olympic Ambition' scheme, which was aimed at giving potential 2012 athletes the chance to be a part of the Olympic experience. Read about their trip here.
