BBC Sports Unsung Hero Awards

Do you know someone who helps others take part in sport within your community?

If so, why not nominate them for the BBC's search for the Sports Unsung Hero of 2008?

The BBC are looking for an individual who, on a voluntary basis, makes a difference to sport within your Region.

  • They must give their time and talents to enable others to participate in the sport in question.

  • This may be in helping an individual, group, team or teams.

  • This sport can be at any level.

  • They must be someone who gains no financial reward for their time and effort.

  • They must be aged 16 years or over (as at 1st January 2008).

  • You cannot nominate yourself or any members of your immediate family.

The person you are nominating cannot be a playing participant in the sporting activity of the club/group they help (they can be a non-playing coach / helper / facilitator).

Last year's overall winner was the remarkable 85-year-old Margaret Simons of Bardwell Football Club in Bicester (pictured with Tim Henman).

She founded the club in 1964, bought the nets kits, balls, medical kits and refreshments from her own money, and was chair, secretary, treasurer, manager and coach to the 20 children in her first year.

An estimated nearly 3,000 children between ages of seven and 16 have now represented the club, which has teams in four different leagues.
