Official Sports London

Official Sports London is an exciting new bursary opportunity designed to assist Londoners aged 16+ to complete sports officiating qualifications and volunteer or work as officials. The programme aims to increase the number of sports officials in London, increase the diversity of London's sports officials, increase the skill level of existing sports technical officials, and enable a small number of officials to be 'fast-tracked' through the scheme for eligibility to officiate at the London 2012 Olympic Games and/or Paralympic Games.

The scheme offers Londoners aged 16+ the chance to receive financial assistance to help them to complete sports officiating qualifications. It is open to both people who are not currently involved in sports officiating and to those who already have qualifications and experience. It aims to reduce financial barriers to sports officiating and encourage more people in London to become involved in sports volunteering and officiating.

Bursary beneficiaries will have to complete a course and 15 hours of officiating after their course. They will receive funding to help cover the costs of the course, membership and license fees, uniform and equipment, transport, childcare, adult care costs, accommodation and subsistence outside London. Official Sports will fund up to 80% of costs (max. £350) and the individual will be fully responsible for at least 20% of costs. Eligible costs for funding are decided with the National Governing Body for each sport. Support packages for people with disabilities are also available.

Interested individuals and clubs wishing to get involved in a boxing capacity are asked to visit www.officialsports.org and/or contact Deirdre Cole, Official Sports Coordinator: email admin@officialsports.org or call 020 7554 8691.
