John Quigley beat Timacoy Williams of Australia in his first bout of the contest. He will now go through to the semi finals, where he faces India's Durga Rao Vankala. "A very composed performance with cultured punches saw John move into the medal stages.  With a 6-0 lead at the half way stage, John used his experience to protect and build on his lead."

Daniel Phillips beat Lance Cooksey of Wales 19:6. He will now face Australia's Jai Alexander in the semi finals. "It took Danny and round and a half to get his timing right, then the classy southpaw took control of the bout against the game Welsh boxer.  A dominant third round scored 6-0, saw Danny set up a well deserved victory."

Iain Weaver beat Vikas Krishna (India) 16:10 and will now face Paul Hyland of Niue. "This would prove to be the most exciting bout of the tournament so far.  With Ian's sharp punching failing to register with the judges and trailing by 4 points going into the last, Ian needed to dig deep.  Cometh the man, cometh the hour!  Ian produced the round of his life, flooring the Indian in the process and taking a heroic points win and guaranteeing a bronze in the process."

Kirk Garvey - Kirk Garvey beat Louis Olivier (Mauritius) 8:5 and will go on to face Satinder Satinder of India in the quarters. "Kirk struggled to find his rhythm at times, however he pulled out the shots needed for victory in the final bout of a 32 bout session, before a throng of fellow English athletes giving their support to the Londoner."

Thomas Stubbs lost 17:5 to Nanao Singh Thokchom (India) in his quarter final contest. "Tommy faced a strong Indian southpaw with a fanatical partisan following, however he would give a courageous display.  The ultra fit English boxer pushed his opponent all the way and the score line was flattering towards the Indian!"

James Dickens beat Kyle Freiberg of Australia 16:0 to earn a place in the semi finals, where he faces Sunil Sadhu of India. "A master class from the Merseyside puncher that left his Aussie opponent frustrated and bemused!  Southpaw James controlled the bout from start to finish, with his counter left cross particularly effective against Freiberg."
