Commonwealth Youth Games - day four

The team in Pune have guaranteed four silver medals and are looking forwards to the finals of the competition tomorrow.

Results with comments from team manager Martin Webb follow:

51kg (flyweight)  James Dickens beat Sunil Sadhu (India)

James will now face Daniel Chapman of Wales in the final.

"The youngest member of the team showed no fear in his tactical battle with the host nation's favourite youth flyweight.  An outstanding last round, scored 6-1 to James, ensures he will be guaranteed a silver!"

54kg (bantamweight) John Quigley beat Durga Rao Vankala (India) 14:3

John meets Clevon Rock (Guy) in the finals.

"Team captain John Quigley gave a mature performance in a battle of cagey southpaws.  John's dominance in the final two rounds saw him score ten points without reply."

57kg (featherweight) Iain Weaver beat Paul Hyland (Niue)

Iain will box Ibrahim Balla (Aus) in the finals. 

"Ian Weaver beat P. Hyland (N. Ireland) 16:3 Ian gave a controlled performance against the tall Irish youngster. The fast hands of the lad from Southampton proved the deciding factor, as he moved his way into tomorrows final."

60kg (lightweight) 
Daniel Phillips beat Jai Alexander (Australia) 24:6

Danny will box Sean Duffy (Nir) in the finals tomorow.

"Danny oozed class in this encounter.  With perfect timing of his shots, Danny progressed in this tournament with a confident display.

75kg (middleweight) Kirk Garvey lost to Satinder Satinder (India) 2:1
