England's progress so far
It was a day of mixed fortunes for the England team as Joe Murray's chances of a medal diminished and Obed Mwakongo showed his true potency as a prospect for 2012.
Moss Side ABC boxer Murray seemed to be on form as he entered the competition, but was allowed only one point for a shot that connected in the fourth round. The other two points came courtesy of a referee's decision when Murray went down after receiving a low blow in the same round.
Murray's opponent, Irish featherweight champion David Oliver Joyce, will now face the awesome Vasyl Lomachenko of Ukraine.
Light heavyweight Londoner Mbwakongo will now take on Siarhei Karneyeu of Belarus, who beat Romanian Constantin Bejenaru 16-9 this afternoon.
Hollington ABC light flyweight Darran Langley boxes against Hovhannacs Danielyan of Armenia tomorrow afternoon (Monday 10th)
Also still left in the competition are lightweight local hero Tom Stalker, and Luke Campbell, who is making a real impression on the international boxing scene this year. Both boxers returned from the Tammer tournament in Finland only last month, winning silver and gold respectively.
Quarter finals start on Tuesday.
