Nicola Adams is set for gold
Bradford Police and College Boxing Academy student Nicola Adams cruised into the 54kg World Championship final in Ningbo, China today (Friday 28th November) when she overwhelmed Cynthia Moreno of the USA 10-0.
Nicola, a student at Bradford College, has won four contests in a week to get this far, beating Ukrainian, Russian, French and now American opposition, scoring a total of 36 points and only having 5 points scored against her. A truly superb performance so far, and she'll need every ounce of skill, grit and determination that she possesses to beat the brilliant Polish boxer Karolina Michalczuk in tomorrow's final.
Michalczuk has beaten Nicola before, but the English boxer is on a roll, and the final looks set to be an intriguing, epic battle, with the winner being crowned World Champion.
National coach Mick Gannon said: "I'm very pleased that all the hard work by Nicola and her coaches and other supporters has paid off. She can beat Michalczuk, I have no doubt about that."
Michele Sutton, Principal of Bradford College, said: "We are absolutely delighted for Nicola and pleased that she is doing so well in the Women's Boxing World Championships. I know that her tutors and the Amateur Boxing Association had great hopes for her in this competition and that she has exceeded all our expectations. We are very proud to have Nicola as a student at Bradford College representing our Sports Academies".
