Lafone Cup Championship
The 2008 Lafone Cup competition, for serving police officers and staff, took place at York Hall in Bethnal Green last Thursday. This competition has a rich tradition, stretching back to the 1930s, and is contested by the five police areas that make up the Metropolitan Police Force.

If the evening was an accurate indicator of the state of boxing in the Met it is in very good health indeed, with 19 bouts on the night, and 18 preliminaries having taken place at Hendon Police College on 13 November.
A good crowd was treated to an excellent evening's entertainment, organised by the Met's chief coach, Constable Cliff Perkins. Barry Jones of the Police Community Clubs of Great Britain praised all the boxers and their coaches for their dedication over the months of preparation for the event, and offered particular congratulations to 3 Area for winning the Lafone Cup 2008. England Head Coach Mick Gannon BEM presented the trophies.
