Mixed fortunes in Macedonia
Two development squad boxers took part in the Golden Gong tournament in Skopje, Macedonia this weekend.
Warren Baister (81kg) and Scott Cardle (69kg) breezed through the opening rounds in the country's capital city. Baister's first opponent, Romanian Sorin Baclesanu, was retired in the first round and Cardle beat Stipica Brehalo (Croatia) 10:4.
Cardle went on to face Romanian Repanu Tsiprian, winning 12:2 and picking up the 'best technical boxer' trophy - an award that went to recent European gold medallist Luke Campbell at last year's competition. Baister was less lucky, losing out to Macedonian Hani Nasi with a score of 11:0. Nasi went on to win the 'Golden Gong' award.
The pair were supported by coach Jim Davison.
