2008 British Universities Championships results
15th-16th March, The English Institute of Sport, Sheffield
The 2008 British Universities Championship were the culmination of this season's very successful collaboration between ABAE and the British University Sports Association (BUSA).
Male and female boxers from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales contested eleven categories, producing some high quality bouts. All deserve congratulations for their efforts, which have really put university boxing back on the sporting map over the course of this season. Paul Porter, Sheffield Boxing Development Officer, said: "The 70 bouts I've seen in this season's English and British University Championships have been a great advert for the sport, and I'd like to thank all at BUSA and ABAE, whose hard work has made university boxing such a success over the past few months. Special thanks go to Wes Grant (BUSA), Wayne Gardiner (Portsmouth University), Bill Sharkey (Scottish universities) and John Hart and Dave Cockell (OIC at the English and British Championships respectively). We now have a great platform to build on for the future of the sport in higher education, working closely with BUSA."
