Leeds boxers shine at awards evening
BOXER Nicola Adams has been commended at the 2007 Leeds Sports Awards, which were presented earlier this week.
Nicola, who won the award for best female international performance at the ABAE awards last year, was highly commended as Sports Woman of the Year 2007.
Another ABAE star, Ben Jones, 14, of the Bateson's amateur boxing club, was named junior sportsman of the year. Jones has boxed four times for England, is a European Schoolboys' Championship silver medallist, won the England Golden Gloves title in two of the last three years and is current national champion.
The awards took place at the Civic Hall in Leeds and were presented by Leeds Sports Federation with the support of the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds City Council, Leeds Rugby Limited and Leeds Metropolitan University. The Lord Mayor of Leeds was in attendance.
