Olympic Games 2008 - medal haul best for 52 years
James DeGale triumphed over Cuban Emilio Correa Bayeaux on Saturday to secure a gold medal for Team GB.
The middleweight from Dale Youth Amateur Boxing Club in London was 6-1 up at the end of the first round, showing an exceptional amount of skill and a cool composure against an opponent who was keen to emulate his father, who won gold in the 1972 Munich Olympics.
A tense three rounds followed, with the Cuban having two points deducted after biting DeGale in desperation, but the Londoner held on to his lead until the end, when he collapsed on the canvass in emotion. The final score was 16-14 to DeGale and a gold to go with the bronze medals awarded team mates Tony Jeffries and David Price.
This success of the British boxing team hasn't been this prolific for 52 years, and attention now shifts to the London 2012 Olympics. GB head coach Terry Edwards - having completed his third successful Olympics in a row - said: "With this team we can have a real impact on the next Olympics. We could be the new Cuba of amateur boxing."
An ecstatic DeGale summed up his feelings: "All the boxing greats have won it - Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard - and now that's me. I have won Olympic gold and made history, and it feels unbelievable."

The team have now returned to England to enjoy their moment in the media spotlight, as well as a well earned rest. More photos from Beijing to come.
