Dale Youth middleweight James DeGale has secured Britain its first silver medal of the contest, after a tremendous performance against his old Irish foe Darren Sutherland.

With a mob of clubmates, coaches and friends behind him a barely containable Terry Edwards in his corner, DeGale put in one of his best performances to date to beat Sutherland 10:3. He will now face Cuban Emilio Correa Bayeaux in the bout of his life as he goes for gold in the finals of the competition.

Sunderland light heavyweight Tony Jeffries took on Irishman Kenny Egan, losing 10:3. A disappointed Jeffries said "I'm devastated. Kenny boxed well, he was sharp and beat me fair and square." Tony can console himself with a bronze medal, knowing he's beaten the best the world has to offer.

David Price lost his semi final against Italian Roberto Cammarelle when the referee stopped the contest in the 2nd round. The policeman from Rome was too much for the Liverpool super heavyweight on this occasion, but Price has boxed exceptionally well throughout the Games and also takes a bronze medal home with him.
