Development update
National Club and Coach Manager Matthew Williams and Women's Development Manager Rebecca Black are now two months into their new roles. With so much happening in terms of development already, they have each given an update on their progress so far.
Matthew Williams, National Club and Coach Manager:
"I have focused my efforts on preparing for the full launch of the Clubmark scheme. Clubs can now register via the ABAE website, which also contains resources to support clubs as they work towards following Lydney ABC in achieving Clubmark accreditation.
My priorities in future will now include the development of the ABAE's coaching systems in line with the UK Coaching Framework. The Framework has been developed by Sports Coach UK - in partnership with national governing bodies of sport - and was officially launched on April 22nd at Coventry's Ricoh Arena, during the third UK Coaching Summit. The Summit outlined key aspects of the Framework and its potential implications for sports. I represented the ABAE at the summit, along with Consultant Coaching Services Manager Jim Atkinson and England Head Coach Mick Gannon.
I will also be involved in the regional road shows that are taking place in April and May. Since taking up my post the thing that I hear more than anything else is how fantastically committed boxing clubs and coaches are to the sport. I am very much looking forward to the road shows as an opportunity to meet many of these people for myself."
Rebecca Black, National Women's Boxing Development Manager:
"As National Women's Boxing Development Manager, I have been conducting research and consulting with key individuals and partners and analysing data on current participation. The research report will be added to the website in the next month. The purpose of conducting such a study is to inform the National Women's Boxing Strategy, which will be launched in the summer. The Strategy will also help to set aims, and outcomes related to women's boxing, to be included in the Whole Sport Plan. I will also be attending the Whole Sport Plan regional road shows over the next month.
Forthcoming projects and events include the National Female Championships on 21st June, a box camp planned for August, a female-only boxing tutor course in June and the EU Women's Championships to be held in Liverpool in August."
Rebecca and Matt will continue to give us regular updates of their progress.
