Smelters shape up for new season

.

The National Smelting Co Amateur Boxing Club 'Smelters' have been training very hard over the seasonal summer break. Head Coach Garry Cave said: "All credit to the boxers - they've stayed in the gym over the summer training when many boxing clubs traditionally shut for a break. This has allowed us extra time in training up the next batch of youngsters to don the gloves for the oldest boxing club in Bristol. We're planning on putting out another strong team of approx 20 competitive boxers and hope to top the 85 bouts we competed in last season. It's been a long break but all the boxers are hungry to box and can't wait to get going again. The gym's packed out now with many local kids hoping to be the next Ricky Hatton or Amir Kahn, but win or lose they're all champions in my eyes for just getting through the ropes in front of big crowds. You hear all the time about kids getting in to trouble with drink, drugs and crime but these young Smelters boxers are dedicated to their sport, stay out of trouble and are role models to other youngsters".

The Smelters have their first show of the new season titled 'For A Few Boxer$ More'  on Thursday 25th of Oct at The BAWA club. Doors open at 7PM and the first bell is at 8PM. The last Smelters show held at the BAWA in June was a complete sell out and a fantastic evening of boxing with 13 very closely contested and hard fought bouts of both junior and senior contests. With a fully licensed bar, DJ and Paula's street dancers it's bound to be another excellent nights entertainment.

Cave said: "We're very excited as we have four shows booked in at the BAWA club, it's a fantastic venue for amateur boxing. We had many favorable comments regarding the last show from clubs traveling from as far a field as London to Southampton to box on the show".

Tickets are priced at £8 adult & £4 junior and available from the event promoter Garry Cave on 07876 233621 or the BAWA Club on 0117 987 3244.
