Legends open new club
Boxing heavyweight legend Frank Bruno and local world champion Graham Earl paid a special visit to Marsh Farm Amateur Boxing Club in Luton, for its official opening.
Earl, WBU World and Commonwealth Lightweight Champion said: "Luton has a strong boxing heritage. Only by investing in new facilities and young people will future champions be found."
The club, based at Lea Manor Recreation Centre, has been formed by a devoted team of volunteers who have successfully run Hockwell Ring ABC for almost two years. It prides itself on offering affordable fitness to people of any age, gender, race and ability.

Sporting Links CIC director Paul Webb said: "Our aspiration is to develop and deliver a local boxer to London Olympics 2012 - via working in conjunction with boxing clubs in Luton."
Frank Bruno said: "It's good to see all these youngsters putting all their energies into something good. It's great what Matty (Earles - Chairman), Paul (Webb - assistant coach), Kay (Prosper) and the sponsors are doing. It's good for them, it's good for the community. I had something like this when I was young but nowhere near as good. Just looking around I see a lot of potential. They're skilful and keen."
Mathew Earles, Chairman of Marsh Farm ABC said: "Boxing develops kids on so many levels. Through a lot of hard work by myself, Sporting Links C.I.C and head coach Kayamba Prosper, we have been fortunate enough to get the club off the ground, assisted by funding from the Local Area Committee and Local Network Fund. The club is now up and running and fully affiliated to the ABAE and hopes to develop some of the quality boxing talent that Luton has demonstrated in the past."
Coaching sessions for juniors (age 11-17) take place on Monday/Friday nights
at Lea Manor (1800-1900). Cost is £1.55
