Woodseats ABC on the Agenda in Brussels

.

It's not every day that a boxing club gets a mention at the European Union, but the success of one club has been highlighted to hundreds of delegates at a key committee meeting in Brussels.

Sheffield City Councillor Peter Moore, who is also one of the UK's alternate members on the Committee of the Regions in the EU, spoke at the October Plenary Session to highlight ways in which sport can help to break down all manner of discriminations. He used the example of Woodseats ABC, where his own step-daughter Kathryn is a keen boxer.

The club, he told delegates, is a venue where sport overcomes barriers including age, gender, disability, race and religion. He went on to say that sports policies and provision should be free from any form of discrimination, and that local and regional authorities should use sport to promote tolerance and understanding within the context of social inclusion and combating discrimination.

Good to see the great work done by boxing clubs being acknowledged at the highest level.
