Burngreave youngsters get a taste of Army life

.

Crime reduction charity Nacro have linked up with a newly-formed Sheffield amateur boxing club to give 16-19-year-olds a taste of Army life.

Burngreave ABC club coach Phil Wood was put in touch with the scheme by Sheffield boxing development officer Paul Porter and has been helping to deliver boxing fitness sessions as part of Nacro's 12-week course; which is aimed at giving young people the opportunity to develop the key skills required in the Army, whilst undertaking a strict fitness regime.

Nacro Sport Coordinator Matt Bray said: "It's a great way to improve fitness and provides focus and discipline, which are required if they choose to join the Army".

The sessions have been an overwhelming success, resulted in improving fitness within the whole group and a number of young people joining the club as a result. The group now visit Burngreave ABC twice a week under the guidance of Matt and Phil.

One member of the group, Danny Smith (pictured below), has already represented Burngreave Boxing Club in the club's first show at Darnall Liberal Club.
