Like Fathers, Like Sons
The quarter finals of this weekend's National Novice championships saw a bout between the sons of two of Britain's boxing heroes at Newbiggin Leisure Centre on Sunday.
Former world featherweight champion Barry McGuigan, an assistant coach at Aylesham ABC, watched as son Shane boxed James Metcalf of Salisbury ABC for a place in the semi finals of the ABA Novice championship.
Metcalf is the son of former WBU light-welterweight champion Shea Neary, and the two produced a thriller that could have graced any ring in the world. The contest was close, with McGuigan winning a points decision.
Glenn McCrory and Chris Pyatt were also present, making for a star-studded ringside.
