Finals (Saturday 8th December)

48kg European Junior Silver medallist Robert 'Rocky' Wright (Clydeview ABC, Glasgow, SCO) beat home boxer Tural Amirov (AZE) to cap a superb year with another Gold medal.  2007 has been a fantastic year for the young Glaswegian who can look forward to 2008 with some relish.

64kg Davey Docherty (Bushey ABC, Watford, ENG) joined his GB squad-mate atop the podium with an excellent performance.  He outpointed Samir Cafarov (AZE).

Unfortunately Craig Evans 57kg (Church Place, WAL) walked into a terrific punch in the second round in his final, and although he got up, the referee wisely stopped the contest so he had to make do with silver.

All in all another excellent tournament for Britain's bright young sparks.  The experience gained by these young boxers who are now habituated with international competition and boxing in highly partisan environments cannot fail to hold them in good stead for their future international careers.  Four medals for a strong Welsh team and Golds for Docherty and Wright.  These performances consolidate an excellent year for the junior squad who look well poised for 2008 and beyond to London 2012.

Semi-Finals (Friday 7th December)

Successes were recorded for three of the British contingent at the semi-final stage of this keenly contested tournament.  First through was 48kg European Junior Silver medalist Robert Wright (Clydeview ABC, Glasgow, SCO) who beat Fariz Iskenderov (GEO).  Next up Craig Evans 57kg (Church Place) came from behind to beat the star of the Georgian side in a narrow points victory.  Davey Docherty (Bushey ABC, Watford, ENG) sealed a good day for the British contingent by out-pointing Georgi Jakely (GEO).

Lewis Rees 64kg (Rhondda), Matthew Innes 69kg (Cwmbran) and Daniel Chapman 48kg (Gwynfi) all boxed well but failed to progress.  They can be justifiably proud of their performances this week.

GB Development Coach Jim Davison and Wales Head Coach Tony Williams both expressed their satisfaction with the performances and conduct of all the boxers involved.
