Apprentice Plumber's One to Watch
Apprentice plumber Billy Morgan is proof that a spot of boxing for fitness can soon lead to greater things. The Canning Town youth took to the ring 'for a laugh,' in order to improve his fitness on the football pitch. Now, at the age of 16, he has his eye on the 2012 Olympic team.
Billy might not have been serious about boxing when he first wandered through the doors of the Black Lion boxing gym in West Ham, but it wasn't long before coaches noticed his potential. He gave up football and has had over 40 bouts since. With two national titles to his name and having boxed for England on three occasions, this bright young spark's definitely one to watch in the upcoming ABAE Junior Championship Finals.

To add to his recent successes, Billy has been accepted into the Newham Olympic Talent Academy, which caters for talented athletes of the right age group who show potential and desire to compete for a place in the 2012 games team. In order to qualify each athlete is assessed against a given criteria and stands a trial period. Once accepted into the programme they receive additional coaching sessions, tailored strength and conditioning training, nutritional advice and psychological profiling, as well as unlimited access to the borough's sports centres and facilities.
Billy faces Joshua Warrington of Kelly's in class 5 of the Junior Finals at Crystal Palace on May 5th.
