Sponsorship Deal For London ABA
The London Amateur Boxing Association has secured £120,000 in sponsorship funding, as a result of a new commercial relationship with Powerday; a London-based recycling and waste management company.
The funding has been bolstered by Sport England, which has provided Sportsmatch funding of an additional £30,000.
The 100 plus boxing clubs affiliated to London ABA have a rich history of success, having produced four Olympic Champions since 1956 and numerous national and international champions. One of the region’s recent success stories is Finchley Amateur Boxing Club’s Anthony Joshua, who has qualified for the London 2012 Olympics at super heavyweight.
The sponsorship will fund a London-wide youth engagement programme, with the aim of creating a lasting Olympic legacy and creating more opportunities for athletes to succeed.
Mick Crossan, chairman of Powerday, said: ‘We as a company have always believed in creating, building and supporting local communities.
‘With that ethos, Powerday is delighted to work with the London ABA and Sport England Sportsmatch to give opportunities to young people so that London’s youth can better their life experience.’
Keith Walters, secretary of London ABA, said: ‘London ABA has long considered it essential to create a programme to engage and accommodate the vast number of enquiries we receive from both young people who want to try the disciplines of boxing training and from top quality young boxers who have Olympic glory on their horizon.
‘Powerday and Sport England Sportsmatch are making this ground breaking programme possible. London ABA is grateful to Powerday and Sport England Sportsmatch for turning a dream into the reality of an Olympic legacy.’
