Edward (Ted) Mann 75kg (Lynn ABC) was a founder member and long time supporter of Lynn ABC.    The Club was formed in 1892.  Mann first boxed at featherweight (57kg) before winning twice at 75kg National ABA titles (1900, 1902).    There are records of Mann boxing Fred Parks 91kg (Polytechnic ABC) and the Olympic Bronze Medalist in 1908 (London, England).

Year:                        Tuesday 2 April 1901

 

Venue:                    Sir James Hall, London

 

Rube Warnes 75kg (Lynn ABC) and Fred Parks 91kg (Polytechnic ABC) both went onto win Olympic Bronze medals (1908 London, England).    Rube Warnes went onto win (5) ABA National titles (1899, 1901, 1903) with Lynn ABC and one each with Gainsford ABC (1907) and Surrey Commercial Docks ABC (1910).    Fred Parks would win (5) ABA National titles also (1899, 1901, 1902, 1905, 1906).    H. Fergus 60kg (Edinburgh Harriers BC) becomes the first Scottish Finalist.

Edward Mann 75kg (Lynn ABC) wins his second, and last, ABA National title.    E. Fearman 60kg (Lynn ABC), beaten by A. Warner (Highgate Harriers ABC) went on to represent Great Britain at the 1908 Olympic Games.    The 1902 Championships witnessed the first American entrants.  This year the event raised a proift of £269 10s 9d.

Once again 1908 Olympians were present; Harry Berry 54kg (Columbia ABC) and Rube Warnes 75kg (Lynn ABC).    Scotland register their first winners; H. Fergus 60kg (Edinburgh Harriers BC) (1902 Finalist) and E. Dickson 91kg also of Edinburgh Harriers BC.

John Douglas 75kg (Belsize ABC) lost his final to Edward Mann (Lynn ABC) but was to go on and become Olympic Champion in 1908 (London, England).    Charley Morris 57kg (Polytechnic ABC) went onto win a Silver medal with Fred Parks 91kg (Polytechnic ABC) winning a Bronze medal.    Matt Wells 60kg (Lynn ABC) wins the first of 4 consecutive titles.    Lynn ABC had 2 National Champions and 3 Finalists.    Half of all boxers in the Finals!
