How do I become a coach?
The first step to becoming a boxing coach is to become involved with a local boxing club if you are not already. In order to gain an ABAE coaching qualification you must be nominated by an ABAE affiliated club. This is due to the contact nature of the sport and the associated requirements for ensuring a safe environment for boxing. Details of local clubs can be found using the Clubfinder function on this website.
The first coaching qualification is that of Assistant Coach, which allows an individual to coach under the supervision of a Full Coach. The Full Coach is the next level of qualification and qualifies a coach to lead boxing sessions.
For more information on coaching courses in your area you need to contact your regional association, who organise and deliver courses. The contact details for regional secretaries can be found in the FAQ section of the website.
The ABAE's Coaching and Leadership Courses Structure is now available to download. The figure clarifies where each course fits within the overall courses structure and provides an overview of what the courses qualify coaches to do.

We are currently re-developing our coaching qualifications and further information on the new system can be found within this section. The existing system will continue to operate until further notice is given.
